Red River Planning District drives digitalization in Manitoba with Cloudpermit

Red River Planning District, Manitoba

January 20, 2021

The Red River Planning District in Southern Manitoba recently signed on with Cloudpermit, a cloud-based e-permitting software that helps municipalities digitalize building permit processes.

This move helps establish the Red River Planning District, which consists of R.M. of St. Andrews, R.M. of St. Clements, R.M. of East St. Paul, R.M. of West St. Paul, City of Selkirk, and the Village of Dunnottar, as a leader in Manitoba.

“Cloudpermit will help us become more efficient, continue prioritizing customer service, and develop stronger communication for and within our building community,” shared Jennifer Ferguson, Executive Director for the Red River Planning District. “In July 2020, we established our three-year strategic plan and by adopting Cloudpermit, we’re able to satisfy eight of our 13 action items, so we’re very excited.”

The District plans to launch Cloudpermit early this year to help solve redundancies and adapt to increasing digital needs during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We’ve been looking for a leader within Manitoba to spearhead the move toward e-permitting, and we’ve found that leader in the Red River Planning District,” explained Jarkko Turtiainen, Vice President of Cloudpermit, North America. “Change doesn’t need to come from the biggest cities to make a difference, and this partnership will help show that and encourage Manitoba municipalities of all sizes to make the switch to e-permitting.”

The move toward digitalization has been welcomed in this collection of municipalities just north of Winnipeg and supports a commitment to continuous improvement.

“Our staff is ecstatic to make the switch to e-permitting and hungry to have technology help them do their jobs better,” Ferguson said. “We’re so happy to give our builders the digitalization they’ve been wanting and to be leaders in the Manitoba building industry.”
