Technical Writer
Cloudpermit is seeking a Technical Writer to join our Product team and play a key role in shaping how users understand and adopt our platform. In this role, you will translate complex, configurable SaaS functionality into clear, accurate, and accessible documentation that supports both municipal staff and public-facing users.
You will create and maintain product documentation across Cloudpermit’s platform, including user guides, support articles, release notes, and in-product help content. Your work will directly impact user adoption, support efficiency, and overall customer satisfaction.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with Product, UX, Support, and Customer Success teams and who is comfortable documenting our ever-evolving SaaS product in a fast-paced environment.
You will serve as the bridge between Cloudpermit’s technical capabilities and real-world municipal workflows, ensuring our users can confidently navigate permitting, licensing, planning, inspections, and enforcement processes using our platform.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Create and maintain clear, user-focused documentation for Cloudpermit products, including:
- Building Permitting
- Planning & Zoning
- Licensing
- Code Enforcement
- Contractor Registration
- Public Works
- Work Orders
- Integrations and more
- Develop support articles and knowledge base content that enable self-service and reduce support friction.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Engineers to ensure documentation reflects current functionality, workflows, and UI patterns.
- KPIs into GTM effectiveness and win/loss rates to ensure data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Produce release notes and product updates that clearly communicate changes, enhancements, and new features to customers.
- Leverage AI-assisted writing tools responsibly to draft, refine, and standardize content while ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Incorporate visuals such as screenshots, diagrams, and workflow examples to improve comprehension.
- Regularly review and update documentation based on product releases, customer feedback, and support insights.
- Identify documentation gaps and proactively recommend improvements to content structure and coverage.
Qualifications, Skills, & Past Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in SaaS or software products.
- Experience documenting configurable, workflow-driven applications.
- Strong ability to explain complex concepts in clear, concise, and user-friendly language.
- Familiarity with documentation tools, knowledge bases, and content management systems.
- Experience creating visual documentation (screenshots, annotated images, diagrams).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong collaboration skills.
- Experience documenting software for government, regulatory, or enterprise users is preferred.
- Familiarity with UX writing principles and in-product guidance is preferred.
- Experience working with agile product teams and frequent release cycles is preferred.
