Governments across the state of New York are adopting online community development software at a rapid pace. Seneca County and the Town of Waterloo mark New York’s 60th local government to adopt Cloudpermit.

Seneca County is gearing up for the introduction of online building permitting, code enforcement, and business licensing. The Town of Waterloo will make land use planning, code enforcement, and business licensing convenient for residents online.

Staff and citizens can use one Cloudpermit account to access projects throughout Seneca County, including the Town of Waterloo. They can work on applications and cases without any paper or data storage limits.

“We expect Cloudpermit will cut our carbon footprint in half by reducing office storage, paper usage, and equipment wear and tear,” shared Lee Earp, Seneca County’s Director of Code Enforcement. “This software will also free up our time for more valuable work and save office space.”

Staff can also create additional office space by minimizing the need for servers.

“Cloudpermit seamlessly integrated with our government’s existing systems and proved to be an excellent fit for our team,” said Mark Shaw, Code Enforcement Officer for Seneca County. “We no longer worry about servers or user licenses since this software hosts our data with unlimited user licenses."

This means staff can easily add as many users to the software as needed for seamless growth and scalability. As a result, the county’s four accessors can work on projects online 24/7 without putting strain on front-counter staff.

“We can eliminate a lot of back and forth for our community,” commented Earp. “We can save valuable time for our clerk by giving our accessors real-time access to information they need.”

Other staff members can save time through smooth collaboration and easy information access between departments.

“Our building and code enforcement departments can now easily work together,” Jim Cleere, the Town of Waterloo’s Code Enforcement Officer explained. “Instead of playing phone tag, we can access the information we need in the cloud.”

Seneca County's over 33,000 residents will also benefit. They will be able to submit applications, send messages, and schedule inspections without paper, printing, or travel costs.

“This partnership will make submitting applications easier for our team and applicants,” Earp said. “Residents won’t have to travel between our offices in Seneca County and the Town of Waterloo. Instead, they can complete everything online for easier tracking and reduced congestion in our community.”

Cleere emphasized their service delivery will improve with access to accurate data anytime, anywhere. Officers can use their phones and tablets in the field for efficient and transparent inspections.
